Out-of-the-box, the only thing Word will do automatically is insert the page number as formatted in the Page Number Format dialog box. Page number prefix to also show in the TOC.

Can I get my manually inserted bit on the Hence, there are a series of 1 to x number, followed by 1 to x again and so on - no prefixes, just the page numbers of each section. Number it is referring to unless you see the Title on the left in the TOC. However, when constructing the TOC, only the page numbers - not my manually added 'prefix' - show up in the TOC layout so you cannot really tell easily what Page In sequence in each section and display perfectly on the pages - so all is good so far. I have separated each with Section Breaks and restarted page numbering and then added the A- or B- or for an Appendix 1A-, 1B-, 2A-, 2B- etc manually.

Annexes are A-1, A-2 etcī-1,B-2 etc and Appendixes are, say for Appendix 1 to Annex A, 1A-1, 1A-2 etc. The page number for the Main Body is straightforward 1, 2 etc.
